Finnish, US Air Forces start join training in Northern Finland
The Finnish Air Force on Monday started a joint training named Astral Knight with U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) in Northern Finland.
The training will continue till August 25, said the Finnish Airforce in a press release.
The aim of the training event is to enhance the Finnish Air Force’s ability to offer and execute Host Nation Support (HNS) and to develop cooperation and interoperability with its allies.
During the event, the USAFE aircraft will operate out of Rovaniemi Air Base.
USAFE will participate in the event with F-16 fighter jets, a KC-135 tanker and C-130 transport aircraft. As for Finland, the training missions will be carried out with F/A-18 Hornet multirole fighters.
The training event may cause aircraft noise especially in Rovaniemi area.
