Power generation at OL1 nuke plant restricted due to glitch

Electricity production at Olkiluoto 1 (OL1) nuclear power plant has been limited on Thursday due to a malfunction on the turbine island, said the owner of the plant Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) in a press release.

The plant's output was being increased following the completion of its annual outage at 4:02 a.m. Due to a malfunction detected at the turbine island, the power increase was halted.

Electricity production continues at approximately 15 percent capacity during the investigation and repair work.

The issue, however, has no impact on nuclear safety.

The cause of the malfunction is currently under investigation, TVO added.

The refuelling outage at OL1 started on 11 May and it was scheduled to take about 11 days.
