Turnover in industry drops by 3.2% in Oct

Working day adjusted turnover in industry decreased by 3.2 per cent in October 2024 from October 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

Turnover grew in October in several main industries. Turnover grew most in the electronic and electrical industry, being 6.7 per cent higher than one year earlier. Turnover in the forest industry increased by 5.4 per cent. Turnover grew in mining and quarrying by 4.9 per cent and in the metal industry by 1.7 per cent from one year ago.

Turnover decreased most in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, up by 17.7 per cent from one year back. In the chemical industry, turnover was 10.1 per cent lower than one year previously.

Export turnover grew in nearly all main industries in October. The growth was strongest in the forest industry, where export turnover was 17.8 per cent higher than one year earlier. Export turnover grew by 8.3 per cent in mining and quarrying and by 7.6 per cent in the electronic and electrical industry from one year ago.

Export turnover grew by 6.2 per cent in the food industry and by 0.6 per cent in the metal industry. Export turnover decreased only in the chemical industry, by 7.5 per cent from twelve months earlier.

In October, domestic turnover grew most in the electronic and electrical industry, by 8.9 per cent from one year ago. In mining and quarrying, domestic turnover grew by 2.8 per cent and in the metal industry by 1.8 per cent.

Domestic turnover decreased most in the forest industry (16.7%) and in the chemical industry (15.4%).

Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry decreased by 0.6 per cent in October 2024 compared to September.

Turnover decreased by 0.2 per cent in September and by 1.3 per cent in August from the previous month.
