Turnover in industry grows by 10.4% in May

Working day adjusted turnover in industry increased by 10.4 per cent in May 2026 from May 2025, according to Statistics Finland.

Turnover increased most in May in the chemical industry, by 19.7 per cent from the previous year while turnover in mining and quarrying was 13.8 per cent higher.

Turnover increased by 13.7 per cent in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and by 7.8 per cent in the metal industry.

Turnover also grew in the food industry (4.4%), the textile, clothing and leather industry (4.4%), the forest industry (4.1%) and the electronic and electrical industry (2.1%).

In May, export turnover grew most in mining and quarrying, up by 20.0 per cent from the previous year.

Export turnover in the chemical industry grew by 16.2 per cent, in the textile, clothing and leather industry 6.5 per cent, in the forest industry (5.2%), in the metal industry (4.3%) and in the food industry (2.3%).

Export turnover decreased only in the electronic and electrical industry by 1.7 per cent from twelve months earlier.

Domestic turnover in industry adjusted for working days grew in May in all main industries.

Domestic turnover increased most in the chemical industry, by 26.5 per cent, in the metal industry 17.3 per cent and in the electronic and electrical industry 17.0 per cent.

Domestic turnover increased from one year earlier also in mining and quarrying (5.5%), in the food industry (3.3%), in the textile, clothing and leather industry (3.0%) and in the forest industry (1.8%).

Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry increased by 1.0 per cent in May 2026 compared to April.

Turnover decreased by 0.4 per cent in April and by 0.1 per cent in March compared to the month before.
