Finland and Indonesia on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in energy sector, said the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in a press release.
The MoU aims to develop technical and economic cooperation between the countries in sustainable, clean and renewable energy and energy efficiency, and to promote the access of Finnish companies to the Indonesian market.
The MoU was signed in Helsinki during the visit of an Indonesian business delegation to Finland.
It was endorsed on behalf of Finland by Director General Riku Huttunen of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, and on behalf of Indonesia by Secretary General Ahmad Erani Yustika of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The visit by the Indonesian delegation was initiated by an interactive energy working group.
Participants in the working group represented Indonesia’s ministry and energy sector.
On the Finnish side, Business Finland and leading companies presented their clean energy solutions.
During their trip, the Indonesian business delegation will visit Eurajoki on Tuesday and Wednesday to know about the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, and Vaasa, where their destinations include Wärtsilä’s technology centre, the WestEnergy plant – which aims for carbon neutrality and operates on circular economy principles – as well as the Vaasa Energy Cluster.
The MoU strengthens the foundation for technological and business cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector
The aim is to identify concrete ways in which Finland can support Indonesia’s energy transition so that Indonesia can achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 or earlier.
The MoU in the energy sector provides a foundation for broad-based cooperation.
It covers, among other areas, smart and flexible energy systems, various forms of renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste-to-energy, energy storage, carbon capture, electric vehicle charging infrastructure as well as nuclear power and new energy solutions, such as hydrogen.
