2400 staff to affect as Valmet starts layoffs negotiations in Finland

Finnish engineering and manufacturing company Valmet on Tuesday announced it will start codetermination negotiations with the view to go for temporary layoffs affecting 2,400 employees in Finland, said the company in a press release.

The statutory change negotiations will start on May 4 and take place in different sectors including packaging materials and paper, pulp, energy and circular economy operations as a part of its austerity measures to save about 8 million euros in 2026.

As per the plan, the measures may involve temporary layoffs of less than 90 days between June and the end of December.

The negotiations will affect employees from all staff groups at several locations in Finland.

Valmet employs about 18,500 employees globally including about 5,900 in Finland.
